Asset name:
Barr'd Island Trail- Northeast way Trail
Description:
The Barr'd Island Trail is a scenic hiking path located in Englee, a picturesque community on the northeast side of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula. This trail is part of the Northeast Way trail system, which encompasses three distinct trails: Barr'd Island Trail in Englee, Glass Hole Trail in Conche, and Underground Salmon Pool Trail in Roddickton The Barr'd Island Trail offers hikers a moderately challenging 0.5-mile (approximately 0.8 kilometers) loop that typically takes around 13 minutes to complete. The trail begins with a wooden staircase leading to the top of Barr'd Island, providing panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the path, several lookouts offer excellent vantage points for spotting icebergs and whales during their respective seasons. The trail is accessible year-round and is free to the public. To reach the trailhead, drive into Englee via Route 433 from Roddickton. Upon entering the town, cross the bridge over to Englee Island and follow the road along the harbor, passing the shipyard. A short causeway leads to Barr'd Island, where parking is available near the large wooden staircase that marks the trail's starting point.
