Asset name:
Baker's Brook Falls Trail - Gros Morne National Park
Description:
Baker's Brook Falls Trail is a popular hiking destination in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador. This 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) round-trip trail offers hikers a moderately challenging experience, leading through balsam fir forests to a series of cascading waterfalls over limestone ridges. The trail is well-maintained, featuring boardwalks over wet areas and interpretive signs along the path. Hikers can expect to complete the trail in approximately 2 to 3 hours. The trailhead is located at the Berry Hill Campground, just a few kilometers north of Rocky Harbour on Route 430. The forest along the trail is in various stages of regeneration due to natural factors like wind and insect activity, as well as browsing by moose. Hikers will encounter a "moose exclosure" along the way, showcasing the difference in vegetation growth inside and outside the fenced area. Upon reaching the falls, visitors are greeted with a picturesque series of cascades, with the middle falls being particularly impressive. The area around the falls is rich in flora, including wildflowers in spring and summer, and is a habitat for various bird species and other wildlife. It's advisable to carry insect repellent, especially during the warmer months, as the forested areas can harbor biting insects.
