French Shore Trail – International Appalachian Trail

Description:

The French Shore Trail is a scenic segment of the International Appalachian Trail Newfoundland and Labrador (IATNL), stretching approximately 14.8 km between the historic communities of Conche and Croque on Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula. Known for its breathtaking coastal views, the trail follows rolling seaside hills, offering hikers stunning sights of headlands, coves, islands, and the vast Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, visitors can explore remnants of abandoned communities and historic fishing settlements at Crouse Harbour, reflecting the region’s deep-rooted maritime heritage. Beginning at a communication tower off Route 434 in Conche, the moderately challenging trail takes an average of 4 hours and 42 minutes to complete. As part of the larger International Appalachian Trail, which extends from Port aux Basques to L'Anse aux Meadows, the French Shore Trail contributes to Newfoundland’s extensive hiking network, attracting outdoor enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
