Asset name:
French Shore Interpretation Centre
Description:
The French Shore Interpretation Centre (FSIC), situated in Conche, Newfoundland and Labrador, serves as a gateway to the region's layered history. The center features captivating images and artifacts that narrate the story of the cod fishery, from the early French sailors to the present-day outport communities of Irish and English Newfoundlanders. A highlight of the center is the French Shore Tapestry, a remarkable 227-foot embroidery inspired by France's Bayeux Tapestry. Designed by artist Jean-Claude Roy and stitched by local women, this tapestry vividly depicts the history of the French Shore and its people. Visitors can also explore exhibits related to the French migratory fishery and local history, offering a comprehensive understanding of the area's cultural heritage.

The FSIC is now the home to the French Shore Tapestry. The Tapestry tells the story of the French Shore in textile form.
